Engineered Wood Products (EWP)
The most common engineered wood products used in framing construction are Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL), Parallel Strand Lumber (PSL) and I-joists. Primarily designed for stability and strength while spanning greater distances than solid sawn lumber — their advantage is consistency and predictability in a wood product while using smaller trees to yield stronger wood.
Economy Lumber Company keeps in stock a substantial inventory of the common sizes used and can partner with one of our strategic suppliers to receive delivery of special orders three times a week to keep your project on track.

Pressure Treated Lumber
This class of lumber is treated with a preservative to protect it from insects, fungus or exposure to moisture. Our Douglas fir .40 Alkaline Copper Quaternary (ACQ) treatment is a water based wood preservative made up of copper, a fungicide, and a quaternary ammonium compound (quat), and insecticide. Applied in a vacuum under pressure, this treatment has come into wide use in the USA, Europe, Japan and Australia.
We stock the common sizes up to 6" x 12" x 20' long. If your project requires larger treated timbers, we can have an eight inch timber treated and delivered to your job site within a week.

Ipe Hardwood Decking
Ipe also known as Brazilian Walnut is our hardwood selection. It has a Class A fire-rating and is a strong choice for building a deck in the Oakland Hills because of the changes in local building codes. Ipe is available in prefinished or grooved for concealed fastening.

- Oriented Strand Board (OSB) OSB is an engineered wood product used for subflooring and exterior sheathing applications. Manufactured from long strips of wood and glued together with resins. OSB panels are extra stiff, lay flat and reduce nail withdrawal, making for quick and easy installation of subfloors. Manufactured tongue-and-groove, square-edge and touch sanded.
Available in 4x8, 4x9 and 4x10 panels in 1/2" - Radiant Barrier OSB Roof Sheathing OSB Radiant Barrier roof sheathing is designed for roof sheathing applications, reflecting up to 97% of the sun’s radiant heat and keeping it from being absorbed into the attic of your home. That means you can lower peak attic temperatures and add to the overall efficiency of a building’s HVAC system.
Available in 4x8 panels - Plywood Plywood is one of the more widely used wood products in use today. Layers of thin wood veneers are glued together perpendicular to each other. This maximizes panel strength with minimal shrinking, resulting in a dimensionally stable structural panel for subflooring, sheathing, shearwalls and general building applications where a wood panel is required.

What You See Does Matter. When it comes to putting siding on your house, there are a number of materials from which you can choose. The selection of your materials depend upon your aesthetic style, type of house, climate and budget. The knowledgeable staff at Economy Lumber Company can assist you with your exterior siding.
- Wood Solid wood siding is still used and can be ordered from a number of vendors. Evergreen clear western red cedar finger-jointed from Terminal is in stock for your exterior siding and trim needs. We also carry the Vintage line of finger-jointed white wood pre-primed trim as an alternative to clear.
- Shingles Cedar shingles for the traditional Bay Area Bungalow is still alive and well at Economy. Fancy cuts or dry resquared and rebutted (R & R’s) from Shakertown can be sourced in a matter of days depending on volume.
- Fiber Cement James Hardie, the leader in Fiber Cement siding and trim, is in stock for immediate delivery. Certainteed and Nichiha can be ordered through one of our vendor partners.
- Composites Hardboard siding from Collins Pine or Smartlap siding and trim from Louisiana Pacific offer cost effective installation and beauty.
